The security operation was ramped up following a series of tense clashes between rival supporters in the hours leading up to the match.

Helicopters over Molenbeek, sirens across the city, and police convoys heading to Anderlecht alarmed many Brussels residents. But Brussels-West Police assured everyone the force was a preventive measure tied to the high-risk football match.
Hostilities Break Out Before Kickoff
Tensions began building the night before the final. Bruges supporters reportedly set off fireworks outside the hotel where the Anderlecht team was staying. On Sunday morning, confrontations escalated at Brussels Central Station, where groups of Bruges and Anderlecht fans clashed. Police intervened to separate them.
According to statements collected by local media BX1, police confirmed that Bruges fans were actively seeking confrontation with their Anderlecht counterparts.

Given the history of rivalry between these two major Belgian clubs, authorities are maintaining high alert throughout the day to prevent further violence. The situation remains tense, but under control thanks to the proactive police response.
