Actor Val Kilmer, Star of ‘Batman Forever’ and ‘Top Gun,’ Dies at 65
Hollywood Mourns the Loss of a Versatile Icon
Val Kilmer, acclaimed for roles in Top Gun, Batman Forever, and The Doors, died at 65. The news broke on April 1, 2025. Pneumonia caused his death.
Born December 31, 1959, in Los Angeles, Kilmer started on stage. He later thrived in film. He rose to fame as Tom “Iceman” Kazansky in Top Gun (1986). In Top Gun: Maverick (2022), digital tech recreated his voice due to throat cancer.

Kilmer excelled across genres. He hauntingly portrayed Jim Morrison in The Doors. He also played Bruce Wayne in Batman Forever (1995).
In 2014, doctors diagnosed him with throat cancer. A tracheotomy followed, affecting his speech. Still, he stayed active in acting, inspiring many with his grit.
He leaves behind two children, Mercedes and Jack. Tributes flooded in from Hollywood. Director Michael Mann praised him as “a brilliant actor and a good man.”
